How should my child dress for class?

Students should always be comfortable in what they wear to class. That being said, MMDC encourages dancers to wear proper dance attire for class.

For Ballet Class, traditional attire for girls is a leotard and ballet skirt or ballet dress with dance tights (pink, white or black) and proper ballet slippers. For boys, traditional attire consists of a white t-shirt, black stretch pants or leggings and black ballet slippers.

*Boys and girls should have 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of space in their new ballet show for proper fit and room to grow.

For Tap, dancers should wear Tap shoes that fit securely with an adjustable buckle or shoe lace. If shoes are too big they can slip off during movement which can contribute to injury.

For Hip Hop, dancers should wear stretchy and lightweight clothing. Sneakers are highly encouraged for this class. If your child is wearing footwear specific to the weather (sandals, rain boots, snow boots, Ugg boots), please pack sneakers in a plastic bag to change. Dancing in the proper footwear helps to keep children safe and they will be able to participate fully and comfortably in all aspects of the class.

do grown-ups have to physically participate in Dance With me classes?

Yes, our Dance With Me classes are designed to facilitate child and grown-up bonding. Participating fully in class with your dancer will help them to feel comfortable in the new environment. Grown-ups listening and following instructions from the teacher, will encourage your dancer to want to do the same and have fun with the dance activities. Our instructors will guide the class with directions for both dancers and adults. Each child will interpret the class in their own way, so you may participate or step back as you see fit for your dancer.
